Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar are currently busy in promoting their upcoming film, ‘Toilet- Ek Prem Katha’. Recently, the duo went to Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow to meet CM Yogi in order to spread awareness about how hygiene around them affects their health.
Akshay wielded a broom along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath here on Friday to make people aware of how cleanliness around one affects their health.
At an event at a city school, Akshay along with Bhumi Pedenkar, his co-star in the upcoming film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha also administered an oath of cleanliness to the students.
After Lucknow, the stars will be going to Agra to promote both cleanliness and the film, a member of the crew told IANS. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already praised the concept of the film.
Adityanath on his part has been promoting the Swachh Bharat mission as the chief executive of the state and had wielded a broom on an earlier occasion also.
Talking about the film, AK said, ” Talks on toilet are still taboo in India. I remember when I had to say a dialogue in the film which is, ‘Ab biwi ghar aaye na aye, sundaas to laakar hi chhodunga is gaon mein‘, people were rethinking if I should say it or not. But as an individual, I think it is necessary… I mean who does not go to the toilet”.
“Our youth is very strong minded. They understand the necessity of using the toilet. Some people are starting to talk about it, which is great… It means awareness has been created. See, it is also about the mindset. In places where I have gone, I heard people saying, ‘We don’t do it (defecate) in the same house where we cook food’. But how can they openly defecate on the field, from where the food is coming? Government is doing its part (by sanctioning public toilets)… People should also take a step,” concluded the actor.
