Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most ambitious project ‘Padmavati’ hascreated lots of buzz before its release. The movie, which is being currently shot in Mumbai with its lead actors – Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh andShahid Kapoor, is slated to release in November this year.
But the news is that they weren’t the original choices for the film! The director had first offered the movie roles to his favourites Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Salman Khan!
After their chemistry in older movies and their relationship, Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to cast these two in the lead. Unfortunately, it never worked out!
If a report in Open magazine is to be believed, Salman and Aishwarya were the director’s first choice for Padmavati, as well. Apparently, he approached them a few years ago and almost succeeded too. The only catch was, Aishwarya agreed to do the film only on one condition – if Salman played the role of the antagonist Alauddin Khilji, who sets out to capture Rani Padmini, but has no scenes with her.
However, Salman refused the offer. Apparently, the actor was keen on working with Aishwarya, but only if it was a love story that would recreate their Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam chemistry that fans fell in love with. He was unwilling to settle for a film where he wouldn’t share any screen space with her.
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was very disappointed with the news and had to move on with his second choices for the cast. ‘Padmavati’ now stars Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone as Padmavati, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the main leads. The movie is all set for a release in November this year.
