Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji visited Allahabad to immerse the ashes of her father at the Sangam, the holy confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical river Saraswati.
Rani was accompanied by her husband Aditya Chopra, brother Raja Mukerji and other family members. The family took a steamer ride to Sangam to immerse the ashes.
Actress Rani Mukerji’s father Ram Mukherjee has died in Mumbai at around 4 am on Sunday. The exact cause of the death is yet to be known. The filmmaker was not keeping well for a long time, a source close to the family.
He was the co-founder of Filmalaya Studios and was best-known for helming films like Hum Hindustani and Leader, starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala. Mr. Mukherjee also produced Rani’s debut Hindi film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat.
Sharing the news of her husband’s demise, Krishna Mukherjee said, “His blood pressure dropped suddenly and he was admitted to Breach Candy hospital where doctors declared him dead at 4 am. He was doing fine earlier and this was sudden.”
