There’s no family like the Kapoor family. From Prithviraj Kapoor to Ranbir Kapoor, it’s delightful to see how the Kapoor khandaan has been carrying forward its legacy for four generations and continuing to entertain us! By the way, Kapoor family is big enough. Leaving aside Ranbir, Kareena and Karisma, some members of the third and fourth generation of India’s first film family, the Kapoors, chose to stay away from the limelight. A few of them chose a different path and are succeed in their own field.
1. Riddhima Kapoor
Riddhima Kapoor is a daughter of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh and a sister of bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor. You have seen her endorsing a jewellery brand with her mother Neetu Kapoor but she has no plans to be on the silver screen. Born in the Kapoor family, the life of a Bollywood actress never appealed to Riddhima. She is happily married to industrialist Bharat Sahni and is also well-known as a jewellery designer.
2. Kunal Kapoor
Kunal Kapoor is an elder son of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal. In 1981 he appeared in his first mainstream Bollywood film titled Ahista Ahistaopposite Padmini Kolhapure. In 1982 he appeared in Vijeta. After that he appeared in the art films Utsav (1984) and Trikal (1985). Trikal was his last film appearance. Kunal later quit acting and set up his own company, Adfilm-Valas, and started producing and directing television commercials. Adfilm Valas has also line-produced for many international feature films and ad films shot in India. In 2015 he returned to films after 30 years, appearing in Singh is Bling as Amy Jackson’s father.
3. Karan Kapoor
Karan Kapoor is a younger son of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal. He is a well known model and actor in the early 1980s. Karan Kapoor is best remembered for his role in ‘Sultanat’ which featured Juhi Chawla as his female lead. He was also seen in Loha, 36 Chowringhee Lane, Junoon and Zalzala, apart from The Jewel in the Crown and The Tooting Lions on TV. He got more movies due to father Shashi Kapoor’s stardom but he couldn’t make his mark in bollywood. Karan later quit acting and he later moved towards photography and decided to be a part of this profession. He is now an established photographer in London.
4. Sanjana Kapoor
Sanjana Kapoor is a daughter of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal. She is an Indian theatre personality and former Indian film actress of British and Indian descent.She ran the Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai from 1993. to February 2012. Her career was not successful. She made her acting debut in the 1981 film 36 Chowringhee Lane which was produced by her father and starred her mother Jennifer Kendal in the lead. She played the younger version of the character her mother played. She later appeared in Utsav (1984), also produced by her father and played her first leading role in a Bollywood film titled Hero Hiralal (1988) which was however unsuccessful at the box office. In 2011, she announced her decision to leave Prithvi Theatre, and launch her own theatre company, Junoon in 2012, which would work with travelling groups staging plays at smaller venues across India.
5. Ritu Kapoor
Raj Kapoor’s elder daughter, Ritu was born in 1948. She wrote a book on Raj Kapoor in the ’90s. This biography was originally written in Russian and it reportedly sold more than a crore copies around the world. She is a prominent entrepreneur, married to Rajan Nanda. She has two children – Nikhil and Natasha. Nikhil Nanda is married to Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter, Shweta Bachchan Nanda.
6. Reema Kapoor Jain
Raj Kapoor’s second daughter too stayed away from films. She is married to Manoj Jain and has two sons – Armaan and Aadar. Armaan will be making his acting debut soon. Reema appeared on Koffee with Karan with her brothers and Neetu Singh.
7. Aditya Raj Kapoor
Aditya Raj Kapoor is the son of late actor Shammi Kapoor and actress Geeta Bali. While most of his family members were making their mark in Bollywood, Aditya decided to become a businessman instead. However, the ‘Kapoor gene’ in him gave in and he decided to make his acting debut at the age of 53.
8. Kanchan Desai
Kanchan Desai is a daughter of Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bali. Kanchan is happily married to businessman Ketan Desai who is the son of popular late producer-director Manmohan Desai. They have two daughters – Pooja and Raj Rajeshwari.
