According to the BMC notice, sent under the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning (MRTP) Act, Mika has carried out many unauthorised structural changes in his 10th floor flat. The notice says, “The proceedings in this case was initiated when it came to notice that the unauthorised merger of elevation features , ducts, voids and part podium for parking etc were contradictory to the OC plan.”

They have also directed him to remove the same within seven days, failing which they would be demolished by the BMC. The singer has been asked to produce documents if he believes the structures are legal.

Mika’s lawyer Yadunath Bhargavan has managed to get a stay order on the demolition. “My client is an innocent third party, who has purchased the flat under a registered agreement for sale on the promises made by the developer,” he claimed. “He has no knowledge of the allegations as set out in the notice. Also, the same notice was set out to other flat owners too. My client denies any irregularities and the allegations, if any, could not have been by the flat owners, including Amrik (Mika) Singh. The OC was given to the developer before Amrik purchased the flat in 2017.”

However, BMC officials say the flat owner is responsible for any illegal alterations. “Once the Occupation Certificate is received, it is the responsibility of the occupant to make sure there are no alterations or additions. We have issues the notice to the occupant based on site inspection and will pursue the case against the occupant,” said asenior civic official.
