The Supreme Court yesterday rejected the final appeal by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to ban the film over law and order trouble. The two states, along with Haryana and Gujarat, had refused to screen the film even after the censor board’s green signal earlier this month.

The members of Rajput Karni Sena and other fringe groups have been leaving no stone unturned in protesting against the release of Bhansali’s magnum opus.

The film faces several threats from Rajput Sena. The film was accused to have offensive content against Rajput community.

The film, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles, is based on the saga of historic battle of 13th century between Maharaja Ratan Singh and his army of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi.
