Veteran actress Shammi fondly called as ‘Shammi aunty’ passes away at the age of 89. She breathed her last at her Juhu Circle home. The actress who was popular for her comic roles, had appeared in over 200 films that included ‘Coolie No 1’, ‘Hum’, ‘Gopi Kishan’, ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’ over her long film career.
She also had an illustrious career on television and starred in a number of shows on Doordarshan.
The funeral of the veteran actress was held in Mumbai on Tuesday (6th February) afternoon. Celebs like Boman Irani, Asha Parekh, Annu Kapoor, Farah Khan, Anju Mehendru, Priya Dutt, Farida Jalal, Sandeep Khosla and Sushant Singh attended the funeral.
Asha, who had been her best friend for more than 50 years, told IANS: “I haven’t wept so much since I lost my parents. I called her Shammi Aunty. She was much older than me. But we were best friends for years. She shared everything with me. It was a natural-born trait in her to win people’e confidence. She was close to many actresses who poured their heart out to her. With me, it was special. We had spent decades together. She was my closest friend, confidante and, after my parents’ death, a guardian angel. Now she’s gone.”
Farida Jalal also came to pay her last respect.
Shammi’s co-star Farah Khan and Boman Irani from ‘Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi’ also attended her funeral.
Acress Anju Mehendru was also present there.
Annu Kapoor also came to pay his last respect.
Sushant Singh was also present there.
Sanjay Dutt’s sister Priya Dutt was also present there.
