Celebrity hoax death has been a trend for a long time on social media. Their are many celebrities who have been victims of this death hoax chain. Take a look at the celebs who became a victim of death hoax.

1. Atal Bihari Vajpayee


Former Prime Minister  and Bharatiya Janata Party stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee has become one of the latest victims of death hoax. The news about his death spread like wild fire on the Internet, with Twitter flooding with condolences for him. It is true that the former prime minister is wheel-chair bound, but he is alive. This is not the first time such reports have gone viral. It is reported that in 2015, a headmaster in Odisha had declared a holiday in his school after coming across news of Vajpayee’s death. However, after the reports came out to be false, he was suspended by the district administration for carrying out a memorial without verifying the facts.

2Farida Jalal

67-year-old veteran Bollywood actress Farida Jalal has become one of its latest victims of death hoax. On February 19, news about the actress’ death spread like wild fire on the Internet, with Twitter flooding with condolences for the actress, especially after her Wikipedia page too, declared her dead! However, the actor slammed the death rumours and said she is alive.

3. Shweta Tiwari

Television actress Shweta Tiwari who rose to popularity as Prerna of ‘Kasautii Zindagi Kay’ has also became a victim of death hoax as a fan page of Sakshi Tanwar posted a condolence message for the actress on Facebook. The news spread like a wildfire, and eventually Shweta’s husband Abhinav Kohli confirmed that the news about his wife’s death was fake.

4. Divyanka Tripathi

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein star Divyanka Tripathi has become the latest victim of a death hoax. The buzz was that the actress breathed her last after meeting with an accident. However, before the false news spread like wild fire, Divyanka took to Twitter to quash it. “Someone’s spreading news about me being in #RIPmode. Guys I’m very much alive. Please don’t trouble my friends and family with such rumours,” she wrote.

5. Amitabh Bachchan

 In June 2012, there were news that Amitabh Bachchan died in a car accident. His accident was detailed so well that one could not help but accept it as a fact. Even his funeral details were shared over the social media. Well, the pictures of Amitabh Bachchan from his past hospital visits are wrongly taken and used to create fake death news about it. Big B, however, chose not to respond to the hoax.

6. Aishwarya Rai

Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also have been victim of the death hoax. The news of her committing suicide went viral on social media. It was said that the actress was frustrated due to Bachchan’s family’s reaction on her bold scenes in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. While some reports claimed she committed suicide owing to marital woes. The reports added that her alleged suicide attempt and subsequent death was hushed up by the family.

7. Sana Khan

It was a classic case of mistaken identity for Sana Khan. The former Bigg Boss contestant and Jai Ho actress was bombarded with phone calls from family and friends, after a website mistook her to be the Pakistani actress (with the same name), who passed away in a road accident. Sana was shocked to see her picture on the website, which reported the other actress’ demise. Says she, “People have been dedicating ‘Rest in Peace’ messages for me on social media. I’ve been getting calls from everywhere. I had to clarify that it’s not me.” While the Pakistani actress met with an accident near Hyderabad in Pakistan, Sana was in Mumbai. The death hoax thus seemed implausible.

8. Dilip Kumar

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar has died quite a few deaths at the hands of gossip mongers. Dilip Kumar was rumoured to be dead after a message of the actor passing away went viral on messaging app, Whatsapp. The message, that went viral, stated that the Bollywood actor had died on March 2 at the Lilawati Hospital in Mumbai. “Big loss of the film industry. Bollywood superstar Dilip Kumar passes away at Lilawati Hospital of Mumbai.” However this is not the first time that the actor has been a victim of such rumours. A while back, when Dilip Kumar hadn’t been keeping well for a while and was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai, rumours of his death spread.

9Rajinikath

Rajinikanth who was hospitalized for allergic bronchitis and viral fever, would not have imagined even in his wildest dreams that his hospitalization would result in fake news of his death circulating all over the internet. Some websites even went to the extent of posting fake pictures of his death, with the message – Born on December 12, 1950, Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, famous as Rajinikanth, died at the age of 61. When the news became too much to handle, his wife came ahead and assured that he was alive and doing well.

10. Madhuri Dixit

The dancing diva faced the news of her shocking death. It was reported she died due to a massive heart attack. This news caused a havoc and several condolences were offered over the internet till the confusion was cleared by the actress herself. A woman bearing same name had died nearby her place and this led to the whole death sequence of the actress.

11. Yo Yo Honey Singh

Yo Yo Honey Singh’s photo of him being hospitalised with drips went viral on the internet and was followed by the fake news of his death. People took to social media to offer their condolences once again and were sad to see him gone. The fact was that the rapper was very much alive and that picture was taken from one of his music albums. Yo Yo took to Twitter and washed away the rumours.

12. Jaya Bhattacharya

When news of the Jaya Bhattacharya’s death circulated, the actress took no time to clarify that she is alive and doing well, but unfortunately she also confirmed that it is her mother who passed away and thanked her well-wishers for showing her all the support.

13. Lata Mangeshkar

The nightingale of India and the goddess of the most beautiful voice ever, Lata Mangeshkar is another one to be a victim of a Bollywood celebrity death rumours. She was rumoured to have passed away and the news attracted a lot of attention, as expected. However, Lataji cleared the air by mentioning that she is hale and hearty and that people need to be more compassionate.

14. Shivaji Satam

Popularly known as ACP Pradyuman from CID, Shivaji was shocked when the fake reports of his heart attack started doing the rounds in media. Reportedly, the track of his heart attack was a part of CID and people confused it with his real life.

15. Katrina Kaif

Bollywood bombshell Katrina Kaif was not spared either. A facebook page spread news of her death and won a lot of attention. Later, the news was called off and the FB page cleared the rumours by saying that it was a social experiment to see how a news like this catches attention and spreads around.

16. Ayushmann Khurrana

Ayushmann Khurrana of Nautanki Saala fame was a victim of such a hoax that claimed that the actor had died in an accident. A website reported that Ayushmann died in a snow board accident when he was holidaying with friends and family in Switzerland, Twitter went into a frenzy as fans started posting RIP messages. Ayushmann chose to clarify the rumours by tweeting, “I have been hearing some bizarre rumors about my demise. RIP rumor mongers. Thanks!”
