Supreme Court lifts life ban on Sreesanth in spot-fixing case

Here is a big sigh of relief for cricketer Sreesanth as Supreme Court on Friday lifts the life ban on the cricketer in 2013 IPL spot-fixing case.

A bench comprising justices Ashok Bhushan and KM Joseph said the disciplinary committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may reconsider within three months the quantum of punishment to be given to Sreesanth.

The bench made it clear that Sreesanth will get the opportunity of being heard by the committee on the quantum of the punishment.

Supreme Court lifts life ban on Sreesanth

In his last hearing on March 1st, Sreesanth had claimed that the life ban is absolutely unfair and that he was continuously tortured by Delhi Police for a confession. The controversial cricketer’s counsel told a bench of justices Ashok Bhushan and KM Joseph there was “no clear proof” and evidence of match-fixing and Sreesanth has suffered a lot in the past five-six years.

Well, after this big announcement, Sreesanth said, “The Supreme Court has given me a lifeline and it has helped me restore my dignity.”

“I have started to practice and hopefully I will be able to start playing cricket soon enough. I request the BCCI not to take all 90 days to take a decision on the punishment for me. I have waited long enough, six years. I want to start by playing club cricket and I am hoping to play in the Scottish league, which starts in April,” he added.

For the uninitiated, Sreesanth, along with then Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were banned by the cricket board over spot-fixing, and Royals were debarred for two years from the IPL.
