PM Narendra Modi: Supreme Court asks EC to first watch the film and decide on ban

Vivek Oberoi starrer PM Narendra Modi biopic which was slated to release on April 11 has been stalled by the Election Commission till the end of the Lok Sabha elections on May 19.

After this, the makers of the film on Friday moved the Supreme Court against a stay imposed on the release of the movie. 

And now, Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to watch the full biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and take a call accordingly on whether it should be banned or not.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also directed the poll panel to submit its decision to the court in a sealed cover and said it will consider the matter on April 22.

The poll panel had on Wednesday banned the screening of the biopic during the current poll period, saying any such film that subserves the purpose of any political entity or individual should not be displayed in the electronic media.

Directed by Omung Kumar, the film narrates the story of Modi from his humble beginnings to becoming the Prime Minister of India.
