Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan breathed his last in Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai owing to a colon infection. He was 53.
The actor’s death has left the entire nation in shock. Irrfan had been battling Neuroendocrine tumour and after having recovered he returned to India to shoot Angrezi Medium. His last film before his demise, Angrezi Medium will always remain special for his fans.

Irrfan Khan’s real name was Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan and he was born to a Muslim Pathan family on January 7 1967. His late father, Jagirdar Khan was from the village Khajuria, and he had the business of tyres. His mother belonged to the Tonk Hakim family. The actor has three siblings, Rukhsana Begum, Salman, and Imran.
Khan was studying for his MA degree, when he earned a scholarship to study at National School of Drama (NSD) in 1984.
Irrfan never wanted to become an actor. In fact, he wanted to make his career in cricket field but his parents were not keen about him taking up a career in that.
When Irrfan Khan first arrived in Mumbai, he worked as an air-conditioner repairman. Reportedly, it is even said that one of the first houses he visited for the repairing services was that of legendary actor, Rajesh Khanna.
The actor made his debut in the year 1988 with the film, ‘Salaam Bombay’. At that time he was in his final years at NSD and the film was received well by the audience and it was also nominated for the Academy Awards.
Irrfan Khan’s death
It was almost a common thing in Bollywood, that every actor would change their name as per the astrology production or as per their stage names. Irrfan added the extra ‘R’ to his name, as someone had suggested him to do so.
Irrfan Khan got married to fellow NSD student Sutapa Sikdar on 23 February 1995. The couple have two sons, Babil and Ayan.
In February 2018, Khan was diagnosed with an “undisclosed disease”, and by many media outlets it was speculated as “brain cancer”. But on 16 March 2018, Khan announced that he is suffering from a neuroendocrine tumour. The actor took break from films and travelled to London for his treatment.

He is the only actor from Bollywood to have two Academy Award-winning movies, Slumdog Millionare (2008) and Life of Pie (2012). He has also received the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honor in India, for his contribution to the field of cinema and arts.
