In the very first edition of the IPL, and perhaps was the first and most talked controversy of this tournament. In April 2008 the incident occurred just after the Kings XI Punjab defeated Mumbai Indians in Mohali. Harbhajan was alleged to have slapped Sreesanth on the face with his right hand.

Though the actual reasons of conflict between the two players remain unclear to this day, the paceman was seen crying bitterly on the ground at the end of the IPL match, which his team won by 66 runs. After an investigation by the BCCI, an 11-game ban was imposed on Harbhajan.

2. Kieron Pollard, Mitchell Starc

Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Starc have been fined for their heated altercation during the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6, 2014. This incident happened in the 17th over of Mumbai’s innings when Pollard pulled his stance due to some problem, but Starc deliberately bowled the delivery towards Pollard, who was in no position to play the ball. It turned into an ugly incident when Pollard threw his bat towards Starc out of anger. This was most shameful act in cricket ever.

3. Javed Miandad vs Dennis Lillee (Pakistan vs Australia)

Dennis Lillee and Javed Miandad were two of cricket’s most high-profile players in the 1980s. Miandad played a Lillee inswinger to the on-side for a single. While completing the run, he collided with the bowler. Lille was to be blamed as he seemed to deliberately move into the path of the batsman and Miandad had to push him out of the way to make it to the other end.

What followed next almost led to a physical fight. Lillee, on his way back kicked Miandad, who holding the bat like a spear rushed towards Lillee, and had umpire Tony Crafter not come in the way, one never knows what would have happened. Lillee’s action was criticised from all quarters.

4. Jason Anderson and George O’Brien

In a match between Cleveland County Cricket Club and Willow Cuts Cricket Club, Bermuda international player Jason Anderson was involved in an ugly altercation with opposing batsman George O’Brien. Cleveland’s wicketkeeper Jason Anderson punched the batsman George O’ Brien without any apparent reason. The altercation turned into an ugly brawl when O’Brien responded with an attempt to hit the keeper’s head with the bat.

Both men wrestled across the crease while punches were thrown and kicks were aimed before police intervened and the two men were separated. Anderson, who has represented Bermuda 14 times has has been handed a life-ban, while O’Brien was suspended for six matches.
