Here’s what Varun Dhawan says on controversy surrounding the molestation scene in ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’

Varun Dhawan is on cloud these days, thanks to the response his latest release ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ has garnered from both the critics and the audience alike. The film has already crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.

However, despite film critics lauding his recent film for his funny dialogues, amazing chemistry with Alia and its quirky take on feminism, a particular scene from the film has become controversial of late.

The film has Varun featuring in a funny, molestation scene where he is molested by a group of men in Bangkok. While that was treated in a much funnier manner with the scene ending in the remaining cast laughing it out, some people have taken offence to the way the makers have portrayed molestation on screen.

When quizzed about his opinion, Varun reasoned that, “Out of 10, if two don’t like something, that doesn’t count as mass opinion. People who felt that way are entitled to their opinion” and he’s totally fine with it. He added that it was supposed to be a “funny scene” and “meant to portray how Badri’s male ego is being shattered”. He added, “In 3 Idiots, there’s a scene where a character confuses a Hindi word for `balatkar’. People should have been offended by that as well. We didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s sentiments and if we did so unknowingly, we apologise.”

On the work front, Unlike his co-star, Alia Bhatt who plans to take a break for a while to pursue other interests, Varun is already geared up for his next project.

Talking about his future work commitments he said, “I’ve already shot a week for ‘Judwaa 2’ and now it’s time to get back to the film. I play twins so it’s important to spend time with the director and on the script. Once the sequel wraps, I plan to take some time off before I start Shoojit’s film which is written by Juhi Chaturvedi and will show me in a new light..”
