Kangana Ranaut gets support from Mahesh Bhatt on her nepotism comment

A lot has been talked about Kangana Ranaut and Karan Johar’s nepotism controversy. Many celebrities were quizzed about it, some expressed their opinion while others stayed mum on the issue.

Talking about this preferential treatment in the E-world, veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt agreed with Kangana. For the unawares, Kangana was launched by Vishesh Films with ‘Gangster‘, and is a Bhatt Camp’s precious find.

In an interview with TOI, Mahesh Bhatt said, ” There is some truth to what she says. The film industry not only in India but also Hollywood is insular. It’s inward-looking. It doesn’t look beyond its own little window, so it seems like a fortress to an outsider, hence I don’t grudge her view. That is the reality, but you can’t generalise this kind of critique. My career says that my doors will always be open for all. When an Anupam Kher walked in through my door at 28 and got Saaransh, it launched his unimaginably productive career. I have always done this kind of work. Even when Kangana came to us, she was a brilliant actor and today, she has much to be proud of. There is no denying that entertainment industries are insular, but you can’t generalise that statement and apply it to everyone. There is this self-congratulatory attitude that since I was an outsider, my journey was more difficult than yours, which was from Juhu to box office peak. It’s a good rhetoric, but it’s the people who decide who is a star and who isn’t. We may have the power to give you an opportunity, but we don’t have the power to decide which film will work and which won’t .”

Earlier this year, when Mahesh’s daughter Alia Bhatt was asked about nepotism by a leading tabloid, she stated, “I think a star kid can get that first film due to nepotism. But to constantly get films just because you belong to a filmy family, is not possible.”

She also added that it’s not right to blame her for being born in a Bhatt family. “I am aware people do struggle to make a mark in the industry, but it’s not right to blame nepotism. I didn’t plan my birth in the Bhatt family [Laughs]. I can’t change that and today, I am successful not just because my family is famous, but also because I have worked hard and you can’t take it away from me,” concluded Alia.

Kangana had unabashedly accused Karan Johar on his show ‘Koffee with Karan’ season 5 of giving break to the already established ones. Karan Johar also gave out several interviews post that allegation and asked Kangana to stop playing the victim card, and to quit Bollywood if she can’t face the pressure.
