After announcing about their separation, Farhan Akhtar and Adhuna Bhabani have now been legally granted divorce by the Bandra court on Monday. They had filed for a divorce on October 19, 2016, on mutual consent after which they were given a six month interim period.
The custody of both their daughters will remain with Adhuna, however, Farhan can meet them whenever he wants.
According to a tabloid report, the couple was called out twice at 11.14 am and later at 12 pm, but the couple wasn’t present there. They both appeared at the second session with their respective lawyers and directly went before marriage counsellor VS Athavale. After which they went before principal judge MM Thakare, where they were finally granted the divorce.
Farhan’s lawyer Fazaa Shroff-Garg told the daily, “The divorce by mutual consent was allowed by the family court in Bandra.” Both of them were present at the court on Monday.
Farhan, 42, is the son of veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar and his former wife Honey Irani, and Adhuna, who is six years older to the Rock On!! actor, is a celebrity hairstylist. They exchanged wedding vows in 2000.
The statement read, “This is to announce that we, Adhuna and Farhan, have mutually and amicably decided to separate. Our children remain our priority and it is immensely important to us, as responsible parents, that they be protected from unwarranted speculation and public glare. We sincerely request that we are given the privacy that is required at this time to move forward in a dignified manner.”
