India was partitioned in 1947 into India and Pakistan. There is a cruelty between both the nations since then. People of both the country have witnessed three major wars. Pakistan has banned Indian films too. But interestingly some of the legends of Indian cinema were born in Pakistan. Still we see Pakistani young artists work in Indian film but we present you the list of legends of Bollywood who were born in Pakistan.

1. Dilip Kumar

The actor who is popularly known as ‘Tragedy King’. Dilip Kumar was born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan in a Pathan-family in Peshawar, Pakistan. Dilip Kumar is his screen name. Dilip Kumar’s house is near the famous Qissa Khawani Bazar. In the late 1930’s his family moved to Mumbai, India.

2Dev Anand

Dev was born Dharam Dev Anand on 26 September 1923 in the Shakargarh tehsil of the Gurdaspur district in Punjab (British India) (present-day Narowal district of Pakistan). Dev Anand spent his early years in Gharota village. He did his schooling till matriculation from Sacred Heart School, Dalhousie, (then in Punjab) and went to college in Dharamsala before going to Lahore to study. Later Dev completed a BA degree in English Literature from the Government College, Lahore in British India.

3. Vinod Khanna

Vinod Khanna was born in a Punjabi Hindu family to Kamla and Krishanchand Khanna on 6 October 1946, in Peshawar, British India (now in Pakistan). Shortly after his birth, India was partitioned and the family left Peshawar and moved to Mumbai.

4. Prem Chopra

Prem Chopra, was born on 23 September 1935 in a Punjabi Hindu family, in Lahore. After the partition of India, his family moved to Shimla, where he was brought up.

5. Amjad Khan

Amjad Khan was born in Peshawar, British India to legendary actor Jayant in a Pashtun family. He worked in over 130 films in a career spanning nearly twenty years. He enjoyed popularity for his villainous roles in Hindi films, the most famous being the iconic Gabbar Singh in the 1975 classic Sholay.

6. Amrish Puri

Amrish Puri, the veteran actor was born in Lahore in 1932. He belonged to a Punjabi speaking family of Lala Nihal Singh Puri. Amrish Puri later moved to Shimla to continue his studies.

7. Gulzar

Gulzar was born in a Kalra Sikh family, to Makhan Singh Kalra and Sujan Kaur, in Dina, Jhelum District, British India (now in Pakistan). His family moved India, after partition.

8. Raj Kapoor

The greatest “Showman” of Indian cinema was born in Peshawar, Pakistan in 1924. They later on moved from Peshawar into present-day India for residence and for education.
