Garba and Dandiya

Navratri is celebrated all over the country albeit in different ways. However one of the most common ways of celebrating the festival, predominantly in the western states of Gujarat and Maharashtra, is in the form of Garba and dandiya.

Youngsters gather in groups dressed in traditional Gujarati attires (women in ghagras and men in kediyus or dhoti-kurta) and celebrate the festival, dancing to some foot-tapping numbers in utmost pomp and fervour.

After the festive season has kick-started, you’ll not get enough time to sort the Garba playlist. So here are some popular Bollywood Garba and Dandiya songs you can bookmark for your ease. Take a look here:

1. Udi Udi Jaye (Raees)

This song is the latest addition to the Garba numbers by none other than King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan. With the stills from the song, SRK and Mahira look lovely as ever in traditional Indian attire and their intense chemistry too. The song is a romantic number set to garba beats. Composed by Ram Sampath, it has been sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Bhoomi Trivedi and Karsan Sagathia.

2. Nagada Sang Dhol  (Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela)

Composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the song is sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Osman Mir, with lyrics penned by Siddharth-Garima. The song features Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Supriya Pathak in the video. The video of the song shows Deepika Padukone performing Gujarati traditional garba dance in a red lehenga choli. The song, turned extremely popular among youth and garba lovers.

3. Lahu Munh Lag Gaya (Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela)

This is another song from Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela that makes its way to this list for its upbeat melody and synchronised dance steps. Play this soft yet peppy song to keep the party going.

4. Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)

You do not want to invite the wrath of the Dandiya Gods if you do not dance to this song during Navratri. Another masterpiece by Bhansali. Featured on Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ajay Devgn, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam had some brilliant songs, among which was this musical brilliance composed by Ismail Darbar. This peppy, fast paced number had Salman and Aishwarya put their dance skills to test.

5. Radha Kaise Na Jale (Lagaan)

Though old, but still it is one of the most popular Garba songs of Bollywood. Starring Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh, this song takes us back into our good old 2000’s. The wonderful folksy music is composed by A.R.Rahman and the lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar.

6. O Re Gori (Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage)

Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage was the second movie featuring the hit jodi of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel.  O Re Gori, beautifully sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, is a nine minute long song which is a perfect amalgamation of old traditional beats and contemporary energetic beats.

7. Shubhaarambh (Kai Po Che)

Sung by Shruti Pathak and Divya Kumar and composed by Amit Trivedi, Hey Shubharambh is the perfect folk song to dance to on Navratri. The folk music touch to it coupled with the drum beats and shehnai make this song the perfect Garba/dandiya number to dance on this season.  This song should be a must-play track on your dandiya list.

8. Dola Dola (Bride And Prejudice)

Bride and Prejudice may not have been a Bollywood movie but this energetic dance number featuring our very own Aishwarya Rai Bachchan beg to differ. Every beat, music and dance step of the song spelled Bollywood and brought forth the festive spirit of India.
