The iconic RK Films and Studios which was built by the late Bollywood actor and producer Raj Kapoor nearly 70 years ago is all set to be sale by Kapoor family.
The studio which is located in Chembur was in the news last year in September when a major fire broke out. Raj Kapoor’s wife and sons Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv Kapoor along with daughters Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain have unanimously decided to sell the studio. The Kapoor family took this decision with a heavy heart.
It is a tradition for the Kapoor family to come together to celebrate Ganesh Utsav every year at the RK Studios. This year as well, the Kapoor-Khandaan came together to celebrate the festival. However, it is said that this is going to be the last celebration at the studio.
Recently, a video of an emotional Randhir is doing the rounds on social media, in which he is seen performing puja.

While talking to Mid-Day, Randhir Kapoor spoke about the last time they will be celebrating Ganesh Utsav at the renowned studios, “As long as the studios are there, the ceremony will exist, Whenever we shift to another location and office premises, the annual Ganeshotsav tradition will continue. We share a divine bonding with Lord Ganesha. We were compelled to sell the studios, as we were incurring huge losses. Especially after the devastating fire that broke out at RK, it was just not economically viable to reconstruct it. Film folk were also reluctant to travel all the way to Chembur.”
Last year on September 16, a major fire broke out at one of the main stages of RK Studio and destroyed the sets of a dance reality show while the ground floor was gutted.
The films made under the RK banner include Aag, Barsaat, Awaara, Shri 420, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Mera Naam Joker, Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, among others.
The last film made under the banner was Rishi Kapoor-directed “Aa Ab Laut Chalen”.
