As per reports in Maharashtra Times, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena‘s general secretary Shalini Thackeray  has demanded a ban on the film.

According to the makers, on public demand, Narendra Modi biopic’s release date was preponed from April 11 to April 5, 2019, just a few days before the Lok Sabha elections begin. But MNS leader Shalini Thackeray has openly opposed the release of the film and had said if it hits theatres before Lok Sabha elections, MNS will retaliate in their style.

The MNS film wing, Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena, has stated that it will not allow the movie to be screened as it “violates the model code of conduct”.

Quoting Maharashtra Times, a report in Times NOW states, “The party’s general secretary Shalini Thackeray was quoted saying that during MNS Gudhi Padwa meeting last year, party chief Raj Thackeray alleged that BJP had sponsored and arranged funds for Akshay Kumar’s films like Toilet Ek Prem Katha and Padman, for promoting government scheme’s indirectly. It is not even a year to this instance, that BJP has once again done something likewise. She then demanded to impose a ban on the release of the Narendra Modi biopic.

She further added that songs for the film are penned by renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar and Samir, as the same is mentioned on the official poster of the film, but in reality there is no truth to this, as both the lyricist just recently denied the same on social media platforms and cleared they had written no songs for the film.”

 In the movie, Vivek Oberoi will be seen in the lead essaying Prime Minister Modi. While actors like Boman Irani, Barkha Bisht Sengupta, Rajendra Gupta, Zarina Wahab, Darshan Kumar, Prashant Narayanan, and Yatin Karyekar, will be in supporting role. 

The film is slated to release on 5 April 2019.
