Bollywood has always been an integral part of the global film fraternity and now our actors and actresses receiving invitation to be members of the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences only proves that our film industry has left a last impression on Hollywood.

The other Bollywood biggies to have been extended an invitation include Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Irrfan Khan, Deepika Padukone & Priyanka Chopra.

Unlike last year, when only 683 members received the invite, this time a record of 774 members have been invited to join the Oscars organisation, bringing the total number of membership to 8, 500.

The announcement was made on Wednesday. “We’re proud to invite our newest class to the Academy. The entire motion picture community is what we make of it,” Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, was quoted on the official Oscar website.

“It’s up to all of us to ensure that new faces and voices are seen and heard, and to take a shot on the next generation the way someone took a shot on each of us,” Isaacs added.

The Oscar Academy has noted not just a 359 per cent increase in women invited to join the Academy from 2015-2017, but also a marked rise in people of color invited — signifying the diversity it was embracing. The new members invited are part of seven branches — actors, casting directors, costume designers, designers, documentary, executives and film editors.

Hollywood A-Listers who have been added to the list this year include Gal Gadot, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris, Margot Robbie, Channing Tatum, Kristen Stewart, Shailene Woodley, Ruth Negga, Rupert Grint and others.

This is absolutely amazing news for Bollywood and we cannot be prouder of the achievements of our actors and actresses. Finally, a sense of inclusion has come with these invitations.
