Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan brought back the Kangana Ranaut-Karan Johar nepotism controversy at the 2017 IIFA awards stage on Sunday.
The ceremony’s hosts – Karan and Saif – took a dig at the Queen star when Varun joined them on the stage to receive the award for the best performance in a comic role for “Dishoom”.
It was a funny moment as the three of them are a product of nepotism and joked about being one. As Varun took the award Saif told him that he made it big in the industry thanks to his father, David Dhawan. Saif said, ”You are here because of your pappa.”
The Dishoom actor did not step back, he also quipped in saying, ”And you’re here because of your mummy (veteran actress Sharmila Tagore).” While Karan Johar was not going to end it there, he joined the actors and said, ”I am here because of my pappa (late filmmaker Yash Johar).” After that, the trio shouted in unison, ”Nepotism rocks”.

Varun then didn’t leave a chance to take a potshot at Karan saying: “There was a song in your film… ‘Bole choodiyan, bole kangana.”
Karan, with his quick wit, then commented: “Kangana naa hi bole toh achha hai… Kangana bahut bolti hai. (It’s better Kangana doesn’t say anything, she talks a lot.”
With this hilarious comment, the audience were laughing as they were reminded of the controversy that Kangana Ranaut had sparked when she debuted on the show, “Koffee With Karan”. She had said that Karan Johar was a ‘flag-bearer of nepotism’ in Bollywood. Well, Karan hilarious dig at Kangana will be with the Bollywood stars for a long time and even longer with Kangana Ranaut.
At the IIFA Awards night, actors Taapsee Pannu and The Black Prince actor Satinder Sartaaj did not miss a chance to ask Karan if they could get a role in his films or feature on “Koffee With Karan respectively. “It is my dream to be on Koffee With Karan, sir. Ek baar zarur bulaana (Call me once at least),” Sartaaj said.
The IIFA Awards took place in the New York City on 15 July where Ram Madhvani’s “Neerja”, Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt win Best Actors for ‘Udta Punjab’.
