Aditi Rao Hydari is in a great place career-wise. She has Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mani Ratnam directing her simultaneously.
The “Wazir” actress is the latest one who join the cast of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest project ‘Padmavati’ opposite Ranveer Singh.
The period drama stars Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, Hydari as his wife Kamala Devi, Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati and Shahid Kapoor as Rawal Ratan Singh.
She sighs, “Working with Mani Sir and Sanjay Sir is every actor’s dream come true. When I think of how much I’ve learned from them, my eyes well up.”
It is a dream come true. “I remember when I had come to Mumbai, I was this lost waif trying to find my way around, my best friend asked me my wish-list of directors and I vividly remember I had mentioned three names: Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mani Ratnam and Vishal Bhardwaj. I’ve already got two of those names. I hope to soon get Vishalji to direct me.”
Aditi is now at home waiting for the crisis precipitated by protests against “Padmavati” in Jaipur to be resolved.
“What has happened is very distressing. Sanjay Sir is a true artiste and a responsible one at that. He would never do anything to hurt anyone’s sentiments. It is sad that instead of granting an artiste of his calibre, the freedom to fly, some try to clip his wings,” says Aditi.
She warms up on the subject of her co-star Ranveer Singh. “Do you know even before Padmavati, Ranveer and I worked together? It was not a movie but a skit on Bollywood that me and Ranveer enacted, Shaad Ali directed and Farah Khan choreographed for Paris’s Nuit Blanche Festival in 2008. Ranveer hasn’t changed one bit. He is still an Energizer bunny, a ball of fire. He says I used to have chubby cheeks back then. He is right. I did have chubby cheeks. But he hasn’t changed one bit.”
