Alia Bhatt has been on a much-deserved break since her last release, “Badrinath Ki Dulhania”, but she is all set to get back on work mode. The actress is all to star in Meghna Gulzar’s espionage thriller, “Raazi”.
According to reports, Alia has been signed on to play Sehmat, a Kashmiri woman who marries a Pakistani officer (to be played by Vicky Kaushal) who provides valuable intel to the Indian forces, in the espionage thriller set during the 1971 war between India and Pakistan.
The film will start shooting next month in a start-to-finish schedule in Punjab and Kashmir, with some portions to be filmed in Mumbai.
“Raazi” is produced by Karan Johar and Junglee Pictures. The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s book, Calling Sehmat.

Vicky Kaushal, who made waves with his performance in “Masaan”, is also honoured to be a part of the project.

Actually, the entire team is so talented and especially to be working with Dharma Productions is rewarding for any young actor. I’ll soon wrap up Raju Sir’s Film and will begin Shooting for Raazi“, said Vicky Kaushal.

Director Meghna Gulzar told Mumbai Mirror, “I am trying to do something in a new space, recreating India and Pakistan of the ’70s on sets and real locations. A lot of research has gone into getting the period and dialect right. There are some action pieces too. It’s work in progress with workshops and reading sessions.”
She was all praise for Alia and revealed that her role will be very challenging and different from anything she has played before.
The film is slated to release in 2018.
