But, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic drama was on Wednesday cleared for release in Pakistan.

“Padmaavat has been declared fit for public exhibition in the cinema houses without any excision by Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC),” Pakistan film censor board chief Mobashir Hasan told news agency IANS.

“CBFC isn’t biased in arts, creativity and healthy entertainment,” Hasan added.

He said that for the film’s certification, the CBFC co-opted Professor Waqar Ali Shah, Chairman, Department of History, Quaid-e-Azam University as per rules. “A co-opted member has no voting rights. They are for expert opinion,” Hasan explained.

In India, the Central Board of Film Certification, the film certification body, cleared the movie after the incorporation of five modifications.

The film, starring Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, is based on the saga of the 13th Century battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji.

The film hits theaters on Wednesday amidst violent protests across the northern and north-western India.
