Arjun Rampal’s brother-in-law Amit Gill arrested by crime branch for betting over cricket matches!

The Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested actor-producer Arjun Rampal’s brother-in-law Amit Gill for allegedly betting money on the recently concluded India vs Sri Lanka cricket series. Amit Gill is Arjun Rampal’s sister’s ex-husband.

The Unit IX of the crime branch arrested seven accused, including six bookies, in the case during a raid at D.N. Nagar, Andheri (west) in August. Gill allegedly was in touch with these bookies and placed bets on the matches, officials said.

Bandra crime branch arrested Tarun Thakur, Sunny Thakur and bookie Deepak Kapoor. The crime branch seized 13 cell phones, two laptops and a diary from the Oshiwara location.

According to investigating sleuths, Amit is suspected to have placed bets to the tune of Rs 15 lakh on the cricket series.

A software engineer developed a software called ‘Bingo’ which was difficult for the police to trace. According to the crime branch, people involved in the racket had links to Delhi, Ahmadabad and Dubai.

An FIR in this case has been registered in relevant sections for gambling and other Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 429, 465, 468 and 471 for forgery.

He has been sent in police custody till October 3, as the crime branch said they needed to take his voice samples to match it with the audio recordings and to check if Gill was in touch with any foreign bookies as he had visited foreign countries on several occasions.
