In a shocking turn of events, Bengali actress Payel Chakraborty committed suicide by hanging herself in a hotel room in Siliguri in West Bengal on Wednesday evening.
The actress had checked into the hotel on Tuesday. As per reports, hotel staff informed the police after there was no response from her room even after repeated knocks on her door.
Payel Chakraborty, 38, was an up and coming actor and had been seen in a number of television serials, web series and films. She started in shows like “Chokher Tara Tui” and “Goenda Ginni”. She had recently moved to films.
The police found the body under mysterious circumstances. “We had to break open the door of the hotel room which was locked from inside,” he said. Her body was sent for autopsy and initial investigation suggests suicide. Payel had checked into the Siliguri hotel located at Church Road on Tuesday and was supposed to leave for Gangtok on Wednesday.

She was supposed to play a key role in an upcoming Bengali film ‘Kelo’. Her parents who live in South Kolkata have already been contacted.
Her father Prabir Guha told reporters “Payal told us she would be going to Ranchi. I am not sure what was she doing in Siliguri.”
