Bollywood actress and politician Hema Malini turns 70 today. Hema Malini is one of the famous yesteryear’s actress. She is one of the most successful film stars in the history of Indian cinema. She is also known as the Dream Girl of bollywood. She worked in more than 150 films with all the popular actors of her time.

On the occasion of her birthday, here are some untold stories of Hema Malini which you have never heard!

Hema Malini was born on October 16, 1948 in Jeeyapuram, Tiruchirappalli district, Madras. She studied schooling at DTEA Mandir Marg and left her 12th amid to begin her acting career. For her amazing acting, She has won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and also the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour awarded by the Government of India.

Hema Malini got her first break in 1965 with a small role in a film titled “Pandava Vanavasam”. She made her acting debut with Tamil film “Ithu Sathiyam” in the year 1963 and there was no looking back. With movies like Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Dream Girl, Satte Pe Satta, Amir Garib, Prem Nagar, Khushboo, Sanyasi, Mehbooba, Kinara and Meera among others, Hema quickly became known as Bollywood’s “Dream Girl.”

The actress was one of the most success actresses of her time. Many Bollywood’s leading man, married or unmarried wanted to marry her.

In her autobiography “Hema Malini: The Authorized Biography”, she reveals that Jeetendra and Sanjeev Kumar had approached her with marriage proposals. But it was Dharmendra who won her heart.

Dharmendra and Hema both changed their religions and got married. The actor till date continues to maintain a balance between two families — one, with his first wife, Prakash and sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and  the second being, Hema Malini and her daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol (who are both married).

Not many are aware of the fact that it was Hema Malini who introduced Shah Rukh Khan into the film industry after watching him in a TV serial ‘Fauji’. She signed him for ‘DIl Aashna Hai’.

It is also believed that she revived the film career of Manoj Kumar and Rajesh Khanna when both the actors were going through a career downfall.
