1. Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone visited the JNU campus in Delhi on January 7, three days ahead of the release of her film Chhapaak. Photos and videos showing her standing behind injured JNU Students’ Union president Aishe Ghosh went viral. After this, the actress has been facing the wrath of social media, the hashtag #BoycottChhapaak remained a top trend on Twitter for some time.

2. Farhan Akhtar

Even as Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar shared his first look from his upcoming boxing drama Toofan, there has been a call to boycott the movie over the actor’s decision to join a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Twitterati started trolling the actor for his involvement in the CAA and NRC protests that are sweeping across the country. Akhtar had also shared a post stating the “Facts” about NRC and CAA, which many said were misleading and false. This led to outrage among the people, with #BoycottFarhanAkhtar and #BoycottToofan trending on Twitter.

3. Shah Rukh Khan

Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan found himself mired in a major controversy following his comment on ‘ extreme intolerance’ in India at an event. The issue resulted in several protests against the actor and his then release film, ‘Dilwale.’ Although SRK justified his comment back then saying that his statement was misconstrued and he later apologised.

4. Aamir Khan

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan had created a stir in late 2015 by saying that his wife Kiran Rao had wondered whether they should move out of the country due to the rising intolerance. Following the incident, a campaign was run on social media defaming the actor and an attempt was made to force e-commerce platform Snapdeal to drop Aamir as their brand ambassador.
