After look test, the ‘Chandra-Nandini’ actress was immediately roped in for the flick. “It’s very different from how the audience last saw me — as a kid in Makdee and Iqbal. It’s a grown up part in the otherwise glam film, as close as possible to the real me because Urmila is earthy and humble,” told Shweta in an interview to Mumbai Mirror.

Lead actor Varun Dhawan was taken aback to learn that his onscreen Bhabhi is only 25 when they were shooting in Jhansi. “He laughed and remembered watching Makdee when he was in school. I had to explain to him that I was in school as well at the time,” giggles Shweta.

Shweta has come a long way from her 2014 controversy. The ‘Makdee’ child actress was arrested by Hyderabad police following a raid. A district court gave her a clean chit in the case and shut the file in December 5 that year. Shweta slammed the media for corroding her image. “The incident is behind me but people keep bringing it up. I have moved on, it doesn’t define who I am. Apart from being an actor, I’m also a producer now and looking forward to doing some great movies,” she says.

Shweta’s documentary ‘Roots’ premieres at a city festival this Friday. The 61-minute film covers the decline of classical art forms in India, and it also showcases a 10-minute animation sequence which narrates the country’s 5000-year musical journey.

The short film also stars stalwarts like A R Rahman, Gulzar, Birju Maharaj, Shubha Mudgal, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Dr L Subramaniam in it.
