Confirmed! Ranveer Singh to play Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan’s sports-based film

Recently, there were news doing the rounds that, Ranveer Singh collaborating with Kabir Khan for a sports film based on India’s Cricket World Cup victory in 1983.

 Earlier, there were reports that Arjun Kapoor would play Kapil Dev in a film. Now it’s being said that Arjun has been replaced by Ranveer.

Trade guru Taran Adarsh on Monday morning shared the news on his Twitter account. Taran tweeted, “#BreakingNews: Ranveer Singh will turn cricketer #KapilDev in Kabir Khan’s sports-based film… #1983 #WorldCup.”

Kapil Dev is an inspiration to many and thus it will be interesting to see how well Ranveer Singh portrays the former captain on screen.

Talking about the biopic, Kabir Khan said Ranveer Singh is the perfect choice to play the sports legend. He said, “As a young schoolboy when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup, I had no idea that from that day onwards Cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, the journey to that win filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script.”

Vishnu Vardhan Induri who is co-producing this incredible journey of Team India,  “With his energy and passion, we feel that Ranveer is a perfect fit to play Kapil Dev, one of the greatest sporting legends India has ever produced.” Vikramaditya Motwane of Phantom Films too seconds him saying it’s not easy taking on the mantle of Kapil Dev. “If any actor can do it, it’s Ranveer,” Both spoke in interaction with Mumbai Mirror.

The film will be written by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. It’ll be co-produced by Phantom Films and the founder and managing director of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), Vishnu Vardhan Induri.

Besides Kabir Khan’s film, Ranveer Singh is also extremely busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited period drama Padmavati, which also stars Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Thr film will hit screens on December 1, 2017.
