Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone who is basking the glory of her recently released film Chhapaak has recently honoured with Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Monday.

The actress was honoured with the award for her contribution to the cause of mental health.

During her acceptance speech, Deepika talks about her struggle with depression. She said, “In the time it has taken me to accept this award, the world has lost one more person to suicide. One trillion dollars is the estimated impact of depression and mental illness on the world economy.”

She then talked about the first time she experienced anxiety and how, on her mother’s insistence, she sought professional help.

“Depression is a common medical illness. It is important to understand that anxiety and depression are like any other illness and are treatable. Acceptance is the first step to recovery. It was experience with this illness that encouraged me to set up Live Love Laugh,” she said.

Deepika Padukone honoured with Crystal Award

She ended on the note, “My love and hate relationship with this has taught me a lot and I want to tell everyone suffering from this that you are not alone.”

Deepika is a founder of Live Love Laugh Foundation that works to spread awareness on mental health.

On the work front, Deepika was recently seen in the Meghna Gulzar directorial Chhapaak. She will soon be seen reuniting with hubby Ranveer Singh on the screen in Kabir Khan’s upcoming film ’83’.
