details about Mission Mangal

ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), which was also called Mangalyaan, was launched in 2013. Successfully executing a Mars mission in its first attempt, this mission marked India’s first interplanetary expedition.

The Mangalyaan satellite was launched at the staggeringly cheap budget of Rs 4.5 billion. The American Maven orbiter, which was also launched on Mars, almost cost 10 times as much.

Details about Mission Mangal

The Mars Orbiter Mission actually cost less than what it took to make the famous hollywood film Gravity.

ISRO wanted the Spacecraft to be efficient in all aspects. It was miniaturised to be able to send such far distance. It weighed 1,337.2 kg during lift off. This included 852 kg of propellant.

The total amount of scientific equipment used in this mission is 15 kg.

India had just taken 15 months to finish this entire mission. While NASA has completed this mission in 5 years.

It made ISRO the fourth space agency to reach Mars, after Roscosmos, NASA, and the European Space Agency while also being the first Asian nation to reach Martian orbit.

The mission success meant India became the first Asian nation to reach Martian orbit and the first nation in the world to do so on its first attempt.

Mangalyaan travelled 780 million kilometers at Rs 5.7/km-less than what autorickshaws charge.

The primary objective of the mission is to develop the technologies required for designing, planning, management and operations of an interplanetary mission. The secondary objective is to explore Mars’ surface features, morphologymineralogy and Martian atmosphere using indigenous scientific instruments.

Well, we are damn excited to watch this movie.
