According to media reports, Mahira Khan got married to Pakistani television actor Ali Askari on 13 July 2007. She met Ali Askari at Indus TV studios during her vacations and fell in love. The couple divorced in 2015. She has a son with him who was born in 2014.

Mahira has started her career as a VJ when she was 16 years old. She has hosted the live show Most Wanted three days a week on MTV Pakistan, and also hosted Weekends with Mahira on Aag TV.

In 2011, she made her Pakistani film debut with Bol directed by Shoaib Mansoor.

She got fame for playing the role of Khirad Ehsan, a middle-class girl who marries with her wealthy cousin in the 2011 television blockbuster Humsafar opposite Fawad Afzal Khan.
