The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell on Friday registered a complaint against comedian Tanmay Bhat promoted All India Bakchod (AIB) for posting an offensive meme about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an official said here.
“We have registered the FIR at the Cyber Police Station in this regard after due legal consultations. Further details will be communicated later,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Rashmi Karandikar.
A photo of a man who resembles Prime Minister Narendra Modi had gone viral on social media platforms. The man, wearing a trouser and a T-shirt, is looking into his phone at a railway station.
In another meme, a person resembling Modi is shown with the ears and nose of a dog. However, the meme did not go down well with many and AIB faced backlash. Some Twitteratti vented anger and tagged the Mumbai Police demanding strictest action against the AIB for the ‘obnoxious posts’ on the Prime Minister.

The Mumbai Police handle replied within minutes saying, “Thank you for bringing this to our notice. We are forwarding this to the cyber police station.”
AIB chose to delete the meme seeing many didn’t like the joke.
Undeterred by critics, Bhat vowed he would continue to make jokes repeatedly. “Will continue making jokes. And deleting if necessary. And making jokes again. And apologizing if necessary. Don’t care what you think,” he tweeted.
PS: Will continue making jokes. And deleting if necessary. And making jokes again. And Apologizing if necessary. Don’t care what you think.

This is not the first time that Tanmay has found himself embroiled in a controversy. Last year in May, Bhat received nationwide flak for posting an irreverent video of a mock conversation between legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
