Dream Girl Hema Malini is all set to launch her debut bhajan album, Gopala Ko Samarpan. The eight-track album, to be launched on Janmastami ( Aug 13 ) at ISCKON (Juhu) in Mumbai.
It also marks the coming together of Indian classical legends like Pandit Hari Prasad Chauasia, Rajan Sajan Mishra and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma specifically for the actress – parliamentarian Malini.
Talking about the album, Hema Malini said, “The entire credit goes to lyricist Narayan Agarwal, who has always brought about the best in Jagjit Singh and Anup Jalota. So, when Narayanji asked me to sing for this album, I was a bit hesitant. I am not a professional singer. I didn’t want to do anything half-heartedly. But he insisted that I listen to all the compositions before taking the final call. Then I realised that it is not everyday that you get to share the same platform with stalwarts like Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Hariparsad or Shiv Kumar Sharma. I decided to give it a shot.”

“Initially, I was very nervous because each track is different from the other. I would often rehearse while travelling; I would plug in my headphone and practise in my mind. It has taken me almost six months to riyaaz under guru Gagan Singhji.” she added.
Hema has also lent her inputs to the album. “Before every track begins, I have used dialogues (bol) to explain the setting of the song,” informed Hema.
Malini sang for the first time in 1977 for Kishore Kumar, Bengali album “Gun Gun Kore Je Mon”, released during Durga Puja which had become a chartbuster.
