Tamil Nadu chief minister, J Jayalalithaa passes away due to cardiac arrest. She was being treated in Apollo Hospitals of Chennai. Jayalalitha was admitted in hospial on September 22nd with an heart problem. During this 70+ days jayalalitha faced ups and downs in helath conditions. Tamil Nadu people considers her as a God. She was served five terms as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, for over fourteen years between 1991 and 2016.

Her full name is Jayalalithaa Jayaraman and she oftenly referred as Amma by her party workers and countrymen. She launched many schemes for her supporters named ‘Amma’. Let us take a look at some such “Amma” schemes launched in recent times.
1. Amma Salt
In 2014, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa launched Amma Salt scheme in which which was available in three varieties which include double fortified, low sodium and refined free flow iodised salt and has been priced significantly lower than its rival products in the respective segments. While the double fortified Amma salt is priced at Rs 14 a kg, the same product sold by private producers cost costs Rs 21 in the open market.

2. Amma Pharmacies
Puratchi Thalaivi (Revolutionary Leader) Jayalalithaa launched an initiative called the Amma Marundagam, which sell quality medicines at “fair price.” The AIADMK government rolled out over a hundred pharmacies in Chennai and other districts such as Cuddalore, Erode, Kancheepuram, Madurai, Salem, Sivagangai, and Virudhunagar where medicines are sold at a discount of about 15 percent over market price.
