Shah Rukh Khan was on a train journey from Mumbai to Delhi to promote his film “Raees”. He was on-board August Kranti Express, which crossed stations namely Vapi, Surat, Vadodara. Unfortunately, tragedy struck at Vadodara station after a near-stampede broke out and caused casualties.
The fans gathered at the station, to catch a glimpse of the superstar, were in a huge uncontrollable number. Police had to resort to lathi charge at a point to disperse and gain control over the massive crowd.

Farid Khan Pathan, a resident of Hatikhana area of Vadodara, was at the railway station with his wife and daughter, when Shah Rukh was present there for the promotional tour for his film “Raees”. Pathan fell unconscious and upon being rushed to a hospital, was declared dead.
At an event in the afternoon (Jan 24), Indian brand ambassador of tourism New Zealand, Sidharth Malhotra faced the media as he spoke about travel and tourism in the foreign country. At the do, the Kala Chashma actor was asked to share his opinion on the incident. He said, “Promotions are done with good intention in mind. We have been doing such marketing trips. Nobody planned for it (the mishap). It shouldn’t have happened, but it was an accident.”
