On December 20, 2016, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan welcomed their baby boy, Taimur Ali Khan. the little one is undoubtedly the most talked about star kid since he born.
The royal couple had to face the brunt of social media and trolling when they named their little prince, Taimur.
His son’s name was thought to be similar to the name of Mongol invader Timur. He couldn’t understand the whole attitude about it. ‘ Talking about the name of his son, he said, “Social media just makes it clear what everybody is thinking in a sense. There is a lot of anonymity from the side of the people who are doing the talking so they feel free to say whatever they like, and sometimes they get very nasty.”
“I’m aware of the heritage of the Turkish ruler and my son was not named after him. He was Timur, my son is Taimur. Perhaps the root is similar but it’s not the same name. Taimur is an ancient Persian name meaning iron. Both my wife and I liked its sound and the meaning. In fact, of all the names I ran by Kareena, she liked this one the best because it’s beautiful and strong. Taimur was the name of a boy he’d grown up with and a cousin too. It’s an old family name like Sara who was also named after a cousin I admired” Saif added.

On Taimur being trolled for his name, Saif said “I should have added a disclaimer, as they do in the movies, that any resemblance to any person, living or dead, is purely coincidental… Yes, there were some people who raised some objections but obviously just to look at medieval history and to make value judgments is, I think, ridiculous, and a lot of people have said that on my behalf. I feel quite confident that we don’t live in a right-wing society. As yet, India is still liberal and people are still open minded”.
“This has been a name I always liked, since I was small. We decided that we could also choose a western name, but I wanted to choose a Muslim name because I wanted a name of my culture. Now, I could either go the poetic route, Faiz and Ghalib… Or we could go into the royal route like name of kings” he added.
Negativity didn’t exactly bother either Saif or Kareena, but the ‘Race’ actor did admit that there were some comments, which he found too harsh, he said, “like someone said, ‘I hope he dies.’ That’s a little regressive.”
Saif Ali Khan even said that the child will be free to follow the religion he likes. The actor also stated that he and Kareena want their son to be liberal and down-to-earth.
On the work front, Saif will next be seen in the “Chef” which is the remake of a Hollywood film.
