‘Shahid’, ‘Aligarh’ or ‘CityLights’, there is a certain sensibility that Hansal Mehta’s films come embedded with. ‘Simran’, starring Kangana Ranaut, is not one of them.

Simran is the story of a Gujarati immigrant girl in the US, who wants to live life on her own terms. She can’t wait to leave her conservative family and enjoy that first taste of freedom. The story is loosely based on the life of an NRI in the United States, Sandeep Kaur who has been convicted of a few robberies. She was dubbed as the ‘Bombshell Bandit’ because of her glamorous get-ups and bomb threats.

Direction:

The film’s direction is good. As the film has been shot in abroad, we have seen very good locations in film. If you talk about the story, it feels somewhere not only weak but also disappointing too. The first half of the film binds the audience, but in the second half the story starts shattering and isolated. Also, the screenplay of the film could also be much better. Audience was expecting a great movie from Mehta, but the film does not fall on expectations.

Star Cast Performance:

Simran review

Kangana Ranaut shines as Praful. Even when she’s committing these petty crimes, you really feel for Praful — and that’s thanks to the actress playing her. Kangana makes Praful and her quandary credible. In-arguably, Kangana Ranaut is the saving grace of this sinking ship. With her additional dialogues and story, the film also has a tinge of her autobiography. She is fearless, independent and blunt. She has done everything to prove her worth as a solo star in the film. From doing action to car chasing, nothing stopped her to be less than a male hero.

Apart from Kangana, no once’s active will remember you. Of course casting is quite weak here which could have been better.

Music Direction:

Sachin-Jigar scores average with the songs in the film, but they’ve done magic with the background score.Pinjra and Meet go very well with the situations, Lagdi Hai Thaai is an unnecessary addition.

Watch Or Not:

Go and watch this film for Kangana Ranaut’s yet another stellar performance. This film also proves one more thing – there never could be a best for Kangana as she’s unstoppable. But if you are fond of Hansal Mehta’s films then this film will disappoint you.
