Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala is soon making her comeback on big screen with “Dear Maya”. And it has little to do with the fact that it is the actress’s first release after six years. The 1990s movie star has emerged from a long battle with cancer and other personal crises. In the June 2 release, Koirala plays a recluse who is the subject of a thoughtless prank and then goes missing.

Considered one of the most beautiful actors of her generation, Koirala is also feature in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic starring Ranbir Kapoor in lead role. She will essay the role of Sanjay’s mother Nargis Dutt in the biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

Manisha Koirala was born into the politically prominent Hindu Koirala family; Her grandfather Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala was the Prime Minister of Nepal during the late 50s-early 60s, as well as two of her great grand uncles, Girija Prasad Koirala and MP Koirala.

She studied at Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi and Vasant Kanya Mahavidhyalaya (VKM) Varanasi. She lived with her grandmother in Varanasi during her studies. Her ambition was to be a doctor, but a modelling stint opened a career path into Bollywood.

Her first film was Pheri Bhetaula (We shall meet again), a Nepali movie released in early 1989. Her first Hindi movie was Subhash Ghai’s “Saudagar” in 1991. The film proved to be a good beginning, as it was the biggest hit of the year.

Manisha is known for her films like “Agni Sakshi”, “Dil Se..”,  “Mann”,  “Lajja”, “Company” etc.
