The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a security guard who shot dead his colleague outside actor Shah Rukh Khan’s bungalow, Mannat, in 2006.
Yatendra Singh Chauhan, 35, was sentenced to life imprisonment for Chandra Pratap Singh’s death, but he was released on parole in 2014. He never returned to the Nashik Central Jail, sparking a manhunt which ended in Kanpur recently.
Chauhan and Singh worked for a private security firm that guarded Mannat. The Crime Branch’s Unit IX said after jumping parole, Chauhan started working as a watchman at Takshshila International Education Centre, Kanpur.

Chauhan told officers that he was very confident that he would not be caught again. “He contacted his wife recently; he didn’t know we had been keeping tabs. When he met her, we arrested him and handed him to the Nashik police,” said senior inspector Mahesh Desai, of Unit IX.
Yatendrasingh Chauhan killed security guard Chandraprakash Singh on August 14, 2006. Chauhan and Singh worked at the same security firm and were both posted outside actor Shah Rukh Khan’s home.
Singh had asked Chauhan why he was sitting, if he had loaded his revolver and if it was working. Angered, Chauhan grabbed Singh by the collar and shot him in the chest. On hearing the gunshot, other security guards rushed to the spot and took Singh to the hospital, where he died of his injuries, said a police officer.
