The Underworld don Abu Salem was convicted by the TADA court in the 1993 Mumbai serial blast case. At one time Bollywood was scared by the name of Abu Salem. In 1997, his name was revealed in the murder of Bollywood producer Gulshan Kumar. His name was also included in the case of murder of 50 people, including the secretary of actress Manisha Koirala.
Well the connection of Bollywood and underworld is quite old. Many Bollywood celebs had lost their career due to underworld. One of these names is actress Sakshi Shivanand. Until about half a decade ago, she was one of Bollywood’s top actresses.
Shivanand made her debut in Bollywood in 1996. During her early career, she starred in the Aditya Pancholi-starrer “Zanjeer” (1998). Sakshi played the role of Sunil Shetty’s sister in the film “Krodh”. Apart from this, she had appeared in “Janam Kundli”, “Papa Kehte Hai”. The film “Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai” turned out to be a turning point in her career.
After that she left Bollywood because of it’s underworld connection. “I was terrified when the producer turned out to be from the underworld. I had everybody telling me that the underworld connection in Bollywood was very strong. I completely freaked out. I ran off to do Telugu and Kannada films,” Sakshi told.
Going back-and-forth between Bollywood and the south was okay with Sakshi. But she was so scared of the underworld’s involvement in the filmmaking business that she decided to stay away from the Hindi film industry.
“If I hadn’t freaked out after the brush with the underworld I’d have continued here. But I ran away from the Hindi industry. I was really shaken up. The ’Tum’ producer would call up…I had to change my number. No one knew where I was. That experience cost me my career in Hindi cinema. I had done Anubhav Sinha’s ’Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha’. Though it wasn’t a hit, I was noticed.
She later shot to fame within a short span of time in Tollywood. She acted with many big heroes in Telugu cinema. She worked with many big stars from south. From Chiranjeevi to Nagarjuna, Balakrishnan and Mohan Babu she appeared with all in the films. Her debut in Telugu was “Collector garu” opposite to Mohan babu in 1997. In the same year she acted with Chiranjeevi in a movie “Master”. She has appeared in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi films.
She has a younger sister Shilpa Anand, who is a well known film and television actress. Shilpa played the role of first riddhima in the show “Dill Mill Gayye”.
The actress Sakshi Shivanand tied the knot with Sagar and now wants to focus on her personal life.
