Last week, on Friday, the whole CBFC game changed when the news broke that Pahlaj Nihalani is no longer the chairperson and Prasoon Joshi will be stepping in as the NEW chief. The appointment of Prasoon Joshi was celebrated by many in the film industry and on social media.

However, the censor board’s new chief Prasoon Joshi who was supposed to attend office from Monday itself failed to turn up.
A source told a leading daily, “On Friday, before Pahlaj Nihalani left his office he had certified many films including Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s Bareilly Ki Barfi and the Sidharth Malhotra-Jacqueline Fernandez thriller, A Gentleman, scheduled to be released on the two Fridays to come one after the other. These producers were to collect their censor certificates on Monday as per the rules. When Prasoon didn’t turn up at the CBFC office on Monday, all hell broke loose since there was no chairperson to organise the smooth delivery of the certificates.”

As per reports, Joshi says he needs to understand his role better before he assumes the position. The lyricist wants not to rush into work like his predecessors. Instead, he wants to start off with caution
The report further suggests that producers of Bareilly Ki Barfi, out of panic, contacted the former chief Pahlaj as they wanted their certification. The source told the daily, “Pahlaj had no choice but to step in to help them out. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have got the certificate. Bareilly Ki Barfi would have definitely missed its release this Friday.”
Prasoon Joshi is now expected to assume office on Friday, 18 August.
