Earlier, it was being said that the film might be screened on 8 February in Indore and elsewhere in the state. Film distributors and theatre owners have agreed to screen the film after the state government assured to provide adequate security cover.

A special screening was held for Karni Sena activists in Indore late on Wednesday. However, the Rajput outfit continued to object to the film’s screening claiming facts have been distorted, leading to cinema halls cancelling the proposed screening.

In Bhopal, five cinema halls had agreed to screen the film but only in the evening. But after the cinema hall owners in Indore did not release the film, their counterparts in Bhopal also backed out.

The magnum opus, based on 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s Padmavat, stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh.

The film hit the theatres on January 25 amid various protests and has since crossed Rs. 250 crore mark at the box office.
