Padmaavat Row: Karni Sena protests outside CBFC office in Mumbai, police detains members

It seems like ‘Padmaavat’ controversy doesn’t end anymore. After months of protests and heated debates, there was finally some sigh of relief for Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his team as ‘Padmavati’ was finally certified with a ‘U/A’ rating by the CBFC.

The  Examining Committee of the CBFC viewed the film Padmavati on 28 December and passed the film with a UA certificate subject to some cuts and the alteration of title of the film from Padmavati to Padmavat.

However, these measures didn’t go well down with Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena ans they are still opposing its release and wants the film to be banned.

This morning, several members of Karni Sena landed outside CBFC office at Peddar Road and began protesting. They said that changing the name of the film was not enough and demanded a complete ban on the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.

However, since they didn’t have the permission to do so, police detained its members. According to reports, around 100 people from Karni Sena and other Rajputana Fringe Groups have been detained by Mumbai Police. Many were traced at Tardeo, before they reached CBFC Office, and thus could not join the protest.

Karni Sena President Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, who had called for a gherao of the CBFC office today, had said that the CBFC had been running ever since the time of Britishers and didn’t know how to work.

The Karni Sena has also demanded the resignation of Prasoon Joshi, the chairman of CBFC. “From the past one and a half year, we have been talking peacefully but now it is time to take up the path of aggression”, said Sukhdev.

The film is slated to release on January 25.
