Quantico Row: Hindu extremist groups burn the posters of Priyanka Chopra in Delhi!

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra found herself in the middle of the controversy following the broadcast of a controversial Quantico episode that sparked an India-wide backlash.

The episode, which aired on June 1, features an Indian group planning an attack in Manhattan with the intention of blaming it on Pakistan. An MIT professor acquires uranium with which he plans to make a nuclear bomb. An Indo-Pak summit to be held in New York City is his target.

The episode outraged Hindu nationalists, prompting Chopra and Quantico’s producer and broadcaster,.

However, realising the emotions it generated, Pee Cee took to social media to apologize for hurting sentiments and wrote, “I’m extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I’m a proud Indian and that will never change (sic).”

Despite her apology, a certain Hindutva group staged a protest against the actor outside the Parliament Street Police station on 10 June.

The agitators indulged in sloganeering and burned posters of the star for starring in the episode ‘The Blood of Romeo,’ which according to them shows Hindus in a bad light.

ABC Studios, the producers of the crime drama, have also offered an apology while defending Chopra who is the lead actor of the show.

“The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn’t create the show, nor does she write or direct it,” US media quoted the studio as saying in a statement.
