Shah Rukh Khan gets no relief in Raees rioting case

The Rajasthan High Court, on Wednesday, said that the charges of rioting and endangering the lives of people against Shah Rukh Khan during the promotion of his film on-board a train in Kota will continue even after petitioner seeking withdrawal of the case.

During the hearing, a complainant named Vikram Singh informed the court that he did not wish to pursue the case further.

However, public prosecutor Sher Singh Mehla stated that the petitioner could not decide the case because it involved loss to public property. The prosecutor further added that the GRP found Shah Rukh Khan guilty of rioting and endangering life and personal safety of others in its report. Following this, the Rajasthan HC said that the case against SRK will continue. The next hearing in the case will be on May 28, 2019.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) had lodged an FIR against Shah Rukh Khan in 2017  on the complaint of a railway vendor, Vikram Singh, under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rioting, unlawful assembly and affray, and some sections of the railways act.

In his complaint, Vikram Singh alleged that Khan arrived at Kota railway station during promotion of Raees, ruckus was created by his fans.

Singh also alleged that Khan while standing at the gate of the coach of August Kranti Rajdhani Express train threw something at the public and they rushed to grab it, and in the melee, his trolley overturned and items on it were damaged and he also got injured.

On the vendors complaint, the case was registered against Shah Rukh Khan under sections 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50), 120(b) (criminal conspiracy), 147 (rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed) and 160 (committing affray) of IPC.
