As per the latest reports, the film is slated to release on 25 January, 2018. The film will clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘PadMan’.

Well, it is sigh of relief for Sanjay Leela Bhansali and for everyone associated with the film. However, minutes after the announcement was made, the Rajasthan government reportedly banned its release in the state.

“The movie will not be screened in any cinema hall in the state. Rani Padmini’s sacrifice is associated with honour, esteem and pride of the state, so Rani Padmini is not merely a history chapter for us, but is our self-esteem. We will not allow her dignity to be hurt howsoever,” the CM said in a statement.

Padmavat has been surrounded by controversies right from the very beginning as right-wing Hindu and Rajput groups objected to the release of the movie. They called Padmavat a distortion of historical facts and an insult to Rajput traditions and culture.

Starring Deepika Padukone with Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in key roles, the magnum opus tells the tale of Rani Padmavati, the legendary Mewar queen known for her beauty and intelligence as well as courage, her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh, a Rajput warrior king who fought to defend his kingdom and wife’s honour, and Sultan Alauddin Khilji.
