Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan’s viral pictures from New York have been trending for two days now. While many wanted the two stars to make their alleged relationship official, there were those who had a problem with Mahira wearing a backless dress and smoking on the streets despite being a muslim mother of a son.
Ranbir Kapoor, who is rumored to be dating the Pakistani actress after they appeared together at Global Teacher Prize event in March, talked about the viral pictures and he seemed more perturbed with the fact that Mahira was trolled for smoking and wearing a short dress than the pictures.
In an official statement, the Jagga Jasoos actor said, “I’ve gotten to know Mahira in a personal capacity over the last few months. She is somebody who I admire and respect, for her achievements and even more for the person she is. It is very unfair the way she is being judged and spoken about. What is also sad is the inequality in judgment just because she is a woman. I request you to stop the negativity and move on with your beautiful god gifted lives.”
Ending his statement with a witty and hard-hitting postscript, Ranbir said, “Both smoking and hate are injurious to health.”
However, Ranbir avoided mentioning anything about the dating rumours with Mahira that have been doing the rounds ever since they met at the Global Teacher Prize gala in Dubai in March. At that time, their videos hinted at the two being more than ‘just friends’.
On Friday, Ranbir’s actor father Rishi Kapoor told HT that he saw Ranbir and Mahira’s viral pictures on Twitter like the rest of the world. “He can meet anybody whoever he wants to, and if people are going to invade in his privacy, it’s not done,” he said. When asked about Ranbir and Mahira’s alleged affair, Mr Kapoor told “I can’t say anything more because I don’t know anything more than that.”
Not just Ranbir Kapoor but Mere Brother Ki Dulhan actor Ali Zafar also support the “Raees” actress Mahira. Ali has written an open letter to Mahira and shared it on his Instagram page. He wrote: “What has happened to us? Have we lost all our sense of sensibility? Must we gossip, intrigue and the self appointment right of judgement over restrain, grace, intolerance and compassion?”
“Every woman has the right to make her own choices in life (as long as she’s not hurting anyone else) just like we men do,” read the post further. “How we react defines our own character. Choose wisely, for we SHALL be judged,” he wrote concluding the letter. Ali tagged the actress and shared the picture with the caption: “@mahirahkhan.”
It is notable that the duo made headlines a few months back after a video wherein Pakistani actress Mahira was pleading something to Ranbir. The video went viral from the Global Teacher Prize, Dubai. The rumors of Ranbir and Mahira calling love shots have been there for a while and the latest photos add to the speculation.
