Spiritual leader Bhayyuji Maharaj allegedly shot himself at his residence in Indore on Tuesday. He was rushed to Bombay Hospital in Indore in a critical condition, where doctors later declared him dead.
A large number of his followers gathered outside the hospital. According to reports, he was allegedly in a lot of stress and depression. He was reportedly unhappy over some family issue.
Bhayyuji Maharaj originally hails from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. He was close to many political leaders.

Bhayyuji, originally Udaysinh Deshmukh, was the founder of institutions like Shri Sadguru Datta Dharmik Evam Parmarthik Trust and Suryodaya Ashram.
He is very popular in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. His ashram is situated in Indore city and top political leaders including Devendra Fadnavis, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar among others are his disciples.
The high-profile ‘saint’ had married an Indore-based medical practitioner, upsetting many of his disciples. Apparently, Maharaj played an important mediator role in persuading Anna Hazare to call off his fast for Lokpal in 2011.
